If there is one man who is not afraid to say what he feels, it’s Ricky Gervais. And one of his biggest passions is animal welfare. The millions of fans that he as garnered around the globe, proudly stand by their actor/activist. So when he and long time girlfriend, author Jane Fallon, experienced the loss of their 16-year-old cat Ollie in March 2020, the world felt the loss with them.
But Mr. Gervais is exactly like the rest of us and after losing his sweet feline, there was a huge hole in his heart that would eventually need to be filled.
Left by a gorgeous feline of this public magnitude, it would take time to heal. And that’s not something you can rush. Both he and Jane shared the weight of the loss with the thousands of fans that Ollie has on social media @myleftfang.
ME ME ME ME ME. I’M 3/8 BURMESE, 1/8 SIAMESE, 1/4 CORNISH REX, 1/4 DEVON REX, 1/2 ENGLISH, 1/4 FRENCH CANADIAN,1/4 IRISH & 100% CAT! TELL ME I’M A GOOD GIRL!
Just had to say goodbye to the sweetest little soul I’ve ever known. RIP Ollie

I have awful news. My smart, funny, feisty, beautiful sidekick of the last 16 & a half years @myleftfang has passed away after a sudden down turn in her health at the weekend. My heart is broken in two. I have no idea what I’m going to do without her by my side. #Ollie pic.twitter.com/UOF1Phm5sq

Not once did it hinder any of his animal rights goals though. He teamed up with the International Animal Rescue Organization, creating a video where he reminds us what’s important.
Speaking in the clip, The Office creator began: “In difficult times like these it’s natural that we focus on our own lives and families. But there’s a real risk that those that are voiceless and vulnerable may get overlooked and forgotten; suffering animals. They need us more than ever.”
Truly earning his spot on the 2010 Time 100 list of the world’s most influential people, he may be one of the loudest voices the animals have ever had on their side.
As for his award for his animal activism, Gervais shared, “I think animals are unconditionally perfect. I’ve never understood animal cruelty. And for me, it’s what a platform is for — to use your voice for those who haven’t got one.”
NO one is safe from Ricky’s brutal honesty should they decide to treat animals as lesser living creatures.
And hunters? Forget about it.
It must feel pretty tough to shoot an innocent animal that had no chance at all for absolutely no reason. pic.twitter.com/LVqUradslu

Although he is one of the busiest and most famous people on Earth, that emptiness felt within the soul was likely always just below the surface. It’s a completely different satisfaction being able to curl up next to a precious furry life you’ve helped save. With it comes peace and calmness. Being in the limelight, I can only imagine that is a rare and cherished gift. And with the Covid-19 pandemic hitting the same time they lost Ollie, the heartbreak was overwhelming.
She’s home! Now the lockdown has eased a bit we were finally able to pick up her ashes. They’re scattered under this stone & I’ve planted catnip round it, because I thought she’d like the idea of the local toms rolling around on top of her in ecstasy ❤️💔 pic.twitter.com/pMIHPdocKC

By October, Gervais and Fallon knew it was time for another step in the healing process, opening their home to a foster cat.
Announcing their temporary house guest on October 5th, the world laid eyes upon Catkins…as the shelter had named her.
Fostering this little beauty for a few days until she goes to her forever home
His fans were thrilled to see another furry feline face on their social media feeds. Of course, the speculations and wishes for them to adopt her came instantly. And whether they knew it or not from their first meeting with her, Catkins had chosen Ricky and Jane as her forever humans.
If you were a young, homeless cat, @rickygervais – which celebrity couple would you like as your foster parents – and what could they do to make sure you don’t turn into a spoiled, over privileged c*nt ?#rickysbollocks pic.twitter.com/8avSCdbmqg

It doesn’t get much better than that for human servants in my opinion!
Quick update on the cat we’re fostering: She keeps getting on my lap and staring at me. We’re keeping her. pic.twitter.com/xp28HXygVe

This love story is blossoming quickly too, as this was only a few hours before Catkins officially earned her new full name. We cannot wait to follow her story and watch this deserving family shower love upon each other!
OK we have a decision…. meet Pickle. Full name Picklicious Fatkins the First. #Pickle pic.twitter.com/pFrifjX046
