Our daily commutes are filled with the hustle and bustle of people rushing off or home from work. During this ‘rush’, rarely do we pay attention to what is around us. But one man in Ontario, Canada was more alert than most in the early morning hours. And with his attentive vision, he spotted a tiny kitten on the side of the highway in a very dangerous spot!
Highway to a better life.
Thankfully the caring man named Cliff was an animal lover and couldn’t just ignore the needy soul. Happily, he wasn’t even the only hero to stop to help the disheveled kitten. He later relayed the surprise tale to Newsweek.
“I kept driving for about 20 seconds before realizing she wasn’t going to survive out there on her own. I turned around, pulled over, and the kitten darted under my car. A man in a pickup truck stopped to block traffic so neither of us would get hit. Within moments, the kitten was in my hands. She was tiny, weak, and fit entirely in one palm,” he said.
“I called my wife on the way home and said, ‘Get some warm water ready. I’ve just rescued a kitten. I don’t know if she’ll make it, but we’ll give it a shot.”
With that support and love showered upon her, the little girl did indeed warm up and began to feel better.
One of my favorite things about this survival story is what they ended up naming their newest family member. So clever!
“They named her Liah, short for “Life Is A Highway,” in honor of where she was found.”
She even gained an entirely new feline family from her new human servants!
“She joined our household of four other cats: Cocoa, 16; Wanda, 9; James, 7; and Vito, the youngest. The timing felt meant to be, as our oldest cat, Cocoa, was nearing the end of her life, and Liah brought a spark of new energy to the house,” Cliff said.
“Although she is by far the tiniest of our cats she has virtually zero fear and keeps her siblings on their toes!”
“Some beautiful paths can’t be discovered without getting lost.” – Erol Ozan
And that is at the heart of every rescued cat. Now fluffy Liah has grown into a gorgeous green eyed beauty. She loves her days filled with her feline family and humans lavishing her with affection. Comfy couches and pillow filled beds are there for her, quite a difference from the hot pavement of the highway. Thank you so much to cat guy Cliff for keeping an eye out for all living creatures!
