Microchip reunion stories are just the best to report on. And this one is a doozy! Because 15 years ago to her families horror, fluffy kitten Flora disappeared. But then, miraculously, they received a phone call with the happiest news they could ever imagine.

Flora had reappeared after 15 years had passed.
Flora’s story began 15 years ago, when she and her sibling were welcomed into a family. The adopted duo were loved deeply by their 13-year-old daughter. But then Flora disappeared, possibly escaping through an open door as the family moved. They searched for her in the apartment complex but eventually had to accept they may not see her again.
Still, they held onto the hope that she would be found. And thankfully, the kittens were micro-chipped from the shelter they were adopted from. The families information was available if the cat was found. But alas, Flora was gone and life moved on without the young kitten.
Microchip Reunion
At the Fairfax County Animal Shelter their protocol for all stray cats brought in is to scan for a microchip. And sometimes, they are lucky enough to find one with information from a family missing a beloved feline. But when they discovered Flora had information and they contacted the person, they got quite a surprise!
Flora had gone missing 15 years prior! They were thrilled at the news and hurried to welcome her back into the family.
At this time, no one else has come forward reporting a missing cat that may match Flora’s description. But it’s very likely that for the 15 years, she was cared for by another person or family and escaped from their home. It’s not every vet (sadly) that will automatically check for microchips, even though it’s the easiest 5 seconds ever. Information still being up to date is always a hurdle too. However, she looks very healthy for a 15 year old cat to be living as a stray.
But now, she’s reunited with the family that fell in love with her as a kitten all those years ago. Congrats to them all and thank you to the shelter for scanning the chip and making this reunion pawsible!
