Plans don’t always go how we think they are going to. For one woman in Vermont named Lily, her plan to adopt a kitten didn’t go exactly how she expected it to. Because before she arrived at the shelter, the kitten she wanted had been adopted. But then she met Gumbo; a 14-year-old cat with no teeth. And the two souls were clearly meant to be together.

Meet Gumbo.

Bestselling author Lily, as L. Holmes, shared an update on her social media one weekend. She excitedly posted a photo of the kitten she was on her way to adopt. It was an adorable Siamese kitten that was looking for a home at a local shelter. (Cough, cough…ban breeders). But fate intervened, and the kitten was adopted ONLY an hour before she arrived! However, she wasn’t about to leave empty handed. That’s when she met Gumbo.

The Initial Plan…

The Outcome.

Gumbo had apparently spent 14 years as a stray cat on the streets of Vermont. Yes, where the winters average zero degrees. Nothing is known of how he ended up there and there is no mention of his journey to the shelter. But his story is the same as millions of other homeless cats. Thankfully, his senior years will be spent indoors, being loved upon.

Now Meet His Tongue.

But Gumbo also has another issue. He has absolutely no teeth. Likely broken, removed and/or lost from his street years with no dental attention. Even with the likely pain he experienced, he is as sweet as can be.

Not to mention UTTERLY ADORABLE because his tongue does NOT stay in his mouth! He is a practically a permanent “blep’er” which makes for the cutest photos. Thank you Lily for sharing them with us all!

However, due to his toothlessness, he is going to require extra dental care that isn’t cheap. So Lily has started a GoFundMe to help cover his gum cleanings. This type of monetary expense is why many senior cats aren’t adopted or they are abandoned. But Lily isn’t going to let that happen to this tongue-wagging sweetheart. And his quickly growing fanbase on social media won’t either. They are happy to help another deserving feline who hasn’t felt love and attention for most of his life.

He and his tongue can focus on just enjoying life.

Naps for he and his tongue make for the perfect photos. Looks like smiles to me!

At his senior age, he still seems active and partakes regularly in catty activities. Which means that he is living a carefree and happy life, thanks to Lily.

Be sure to follow them online too; you won’t be disappointed!
