Remember when we used to have to learn about optical illusions in grade school? Remember those swirling Fraiser circles? Or those neverending Penrose stairs?

This time, we have a visual illusion that’s a little more fun. A video was posted on Reddit, and it has viewers mindblown at what they thought was a dog but was actually a cat!

What are Optical Illusions?

According to Merriam-Webster, an optical illusion is a misleading image presented to the vision. Basically, our brain playing tricks on us and not able to make heads or tails of something.

Do you remember the infamous “Is this dress gold and white or blue and black?” social media craze? That is considered an optical illusion. Of course, you can find tons of them all over social media. But back to this specific illusion.

Do You See a Dog or Cat?

The cat/dog video was captioned with “This really messed with my head 😲😂” Check it out in the video below.

Video via YouTube/Inside Edition:

When you watch the video, what you think you originally see is a dog’s head poking over a roof. The dog looks like a perfectly spotted round pair of eyes and a mouth just chilling, peeking over and watching things. Then, what looks like Snoopy moves, and you see a cat’s head abruptly turn around.

Check out what these Redditors had to say about the cat/dog:

Solid-Run-876 said, “I was like: ‘but where [has] that dog’s body gone? 😂”

Another Redditor stated, “I was certain it was a lab with his head sticking out of a hole in the wall.”

“Catface McDogbutt,” says airmaximus88.

One Reddit user commented, “I was thinking, “Why are they calling that dog with a kitty call? Then ‘whaaat?'”

Overall, the comments were pretty hilarious.

Kittensnake

It won’t be the first time we’ll run into some funny kitty optical illusions. Once again, the internet has done it with the “Kittensnake,” and many Twitter users are still trying to figure out where the cat went.

Behold the Kittensnake below:

Kittensnake? Worm cat? Who knows. Where did the rest of the cat go? When cats take their liquid form, anything is possible. They can even hide in plain sight.

Cats and Optical Illusions

As we’ve seen, cats are master of creating optical illusions without trying. But can they see these illusions themselves? That’s the question asked by viral videos of cats interacting with an optical illusion rug placed on the floor. Last year, people began posting videos of their cats approarching the illusion rug, which looks like a hole in the floor.

Here’s one from Reddit posted by user vladgrinch with a really cute kitty:

As you can see, the kitty does notice something is different at first. But soon, the cat is rolling around on the rug without a care in the world. Or maybe, they are just fearless, trusting they will land on their feet whatever happens? This inspired some funny comments like those below on the Reddit thread:

In similar videos, cats figure out there’s no hole there really fast. Then, it becomes their favorite place to play.
