We often share stories about cats that adopt kittens that aren’t their own. And it’s always incredibly heartwarming to witness dogs that choose to be nannies for tiny kittens the size of their paws! But here’s something quite different: a cat that adopted a human baby as if she was her own. Meet Luna and Kallie, a “smol” black cat and her infant child, Kallie!
“This sweet kitty 🐈⬛ chose us at the shelter, and she is the best thing that happened to all of us,” said Mom Kelly De Alba.
Were Luna and Kallie Always Meant to Be?
After Kelly gave birth to a baby girl, Kallie, she decided to adopt from a local shelter in Pierce County, WA. That was in December 2021, a day that changed the family most sweetly forever!
Kelly visited the shelter for weeks to find the “perfect fit” for her family. On the day she intended to meet a different kitty, the staff had a hunch the right kitty was Luna. She’s a sweet, snuggly house panther kitten who has very unusual “ice/sky blue eyes.“
As soon as the staff introduced the family, they quickly realized she was the one! At their first introduction, she climbed onto Kelly’s shoulder as if to say, “Alright Mom, let’s go!” The rest, she said, “was history!“
On that first day, Luna even cuddled with the baby in her car seat! Did she know this was her special soulmate at that moment? We think she did!
“She loves snuggling; she is the sweetest thing ever!” Mom told The Dodo (see video below).
A ‘Baby and Cat Bond’
Although Luna is sweet with everyone, she gravitated to Kallie from the beginning. It seems predestined, but Kelly never saw it coming.
“From the start, she’s kind of been Kallie’s cat, and I never saw it going the way that it did. It is literally a baby and cat bond. Everyone always said, ‘The cat will pick you,’ and she did!” Kelly reflected.

Luna Broke Into the Nursery
Call it fate, but Luna was so deeply bonded with her human baby. She refused to stay apart, even pushing open the nursery door to snuggle with her, as caught on the baby cam! And that behavior continued until eventually it seemed Luna was “her baby’s bouncer,” always nearby or at least with something belonging to Kallie (such as a teddy bear).

Generally, it’s best to keep pets apart from a baby unless closely supervised. But as time went by, it was clear that Luna was always extremely gentle with Kallie. Even when the baby pulled on the kitty’s ear, she just endured it and never reacted with any aggression.
Below, Kelly recently shared the viral video of catching Luna in the nursery. In this version, you can hear how loud the kitty is purring!
“When your cat manages to get the door open to get to her baby. Their bond amazes me. Don’t worry, Mommy was there within a minute.”

Luna and Kallie Have ‘an Unbreakable Bond’
Since first posting about Luna and Kallie, the videos have continued going viral on TikTok. Time has proven that the bond between the kitty and baby was true and solidly strong. The kitty also shows great concern for the other children in the family.
Today, the family is enjoying farm life in Oregon and Luna and Kallie are still as close as ever! We believe it was truly meant to be, and it’s so beautiful! We send the family love and healing purrs as we understand they have been dealing with some medical difficulties.
“An unbreakable bond, I love watching them snuggle like this two years later still 🩵🩷” Kelly wrote.
