Cats are always inspiring us with the way they remain unconditionally loving despite all the cruelty they experience from human beings. In a similar circumstance, could we learn to be trusting and open again? For example, a cat named Bagel in Miami has so completely bounced back from his past life that there’s no sign of it. He’s found so many new things to love and a couple of people in purrticular!

Bagel the Kitty Meets the Cable Guy

Before we delve into Bagel’s past, let’s witness a heartwarming moment from his present. When the cable guy arrived at his home, Bagel’s reaction was nothing short of adorable.

While the technician worked on fixing the TV, Bagel worked on getting cozy. He cuddled up to just about everything he could but seemed particularly fond of his shoes.

“📺 The big storm knocked out our power, and someone named The Cable Guy came to fix the TV. He is my favorite man! His shoes smelled delicious, and he let me cuddle with him. He even told me I “got the true spirit!” shared Bagel the Baker.

With a touch of mischief, Bagel shared, “I hope he comes back, even though Meowmy hopes he doesn’t need to 🤭.”

Bagel’s New Life After a Tragic Past

Having watched the love fest with a total stranger, one could never suspect Bagel’s tragic past. Not long ago, he was a test lab cat in a cruel facility in Oklahoma. For four years, he lived in a cage, being poked and prodded for chemical testing. Ironically, they carried out cruelty in the name of preventing fleas and ticks.

Thankfully, the Beagle Freedom Project, along with rescuers like Nathan the Cat Lady, saved 200 dogs and cats. But even better, they converted the lab into a permanent sanctuary for dogs and cats. Among the cats they rescued was Bagel, and he found his home with his Mom, Erin, a Harvard Medical School fellow who is working to help advance animal-free testing technologies.

After arriving home in April, Bagel made an incredible transfurmation! First, he revealed he’s a natural-born baker, constantly making a steady supply of love biscuits for Mom. And for the first time in his life, he has access to a world of new things, like shoes, lots of toys, and a dripping bathroom sink.

You can see below how the kitty reacted at encountering “smelly gym shoes” for the very first time. After years of being isolated, it was pure bliss!

Fighting for the Animals Stuck in Laboratories

Today, Bagel continues learning about the simple pleasures of everything around him for the very first time. And thanks to his mom’s care, he’s learned to trust again, although he still recalls those scary lab days whenever he visits the veterinarian.

Considering this cat’s troubling past, how much more incredible it is to see how he’s doing today? But it never would have happened without the heroic rescuers’ intervention.

“I hope everyone fights for all of the animals still stuck in laboratories…we all deserve to be loved and free 🥹🩵🐾,” Bagel shared.

Wonderfully, Erin shared that she is also working on adopting another kitty seen in the video below! (Only one cat is allowed on the airline at a time.)
