Rescuer and Officer Gretchen Byrne took in the ‘Hot Mess Express,’ adorable but sickly kittens. Somebody had dropped them off in a box at the Salvation Army like they were a donation. But this dumped donation required immediate rescue and round-the-clock care!

The Hot Mess Express

After someone left them abandoned in the box, the kittens were not doing well, and it was touch and go. With great effort, all but one survived the night. Then, two of the Hot Mess Express lived up to their nicknames, with lots of messy tummy issues.

The sisters were so sickly that it was “the most beautiful thing in the world” when they started pooping normally!

After bouncing back from their tummy troubles, Officer Byrne said they were the “toughest girls” she knew. But their tummy issues had been so troublesome they became known as Poopina and Ana Cagona (Spanish slang for a baby with poopy diapers!)

“Toughest girls I know ❤️ 💩”

Scraggly Potato Bodies

As they recovered, the sisters both had the funniest “scraggly potato” bodies, a healthy phase that rapidly growing kittens go through.

After all the mess, they recovered and became absolute beauties. However, the tummy issues took a while to work themselves out.

“Yesterday, [Poopina] had a long audible squeaky fart while I held her. It was the cutest thing I’ve ever heard. 🐈 💨”

Old Man Pipo Has an Admirer

Now, the rite of passage came as Poopina and Ana Cagona met Old Man Pipo, the resident foster uncle. He loved caring for each of the foster kittens over the years and wise beyond years at 22 years old.

“Always watching over his kittens. Soo many people ask, Pipo is around 22 years old.”

Ana Cagona was purrticularly fond of Pipo, getting as close as she could to nuzzle the loving senior.

“My girls have been through soo much I think it’s made them extra sweet. Ana Cagona absolutely adores old man P.”

Blood, Sweat and Tears, and Lots of Caca!

The Hot Mess Express sisters went through so much, but they made it! Their story shows that rescuing kittens is often thankless, and dirty work, with so many ups and downs. But since their foster mom was willing to take on the challenges, they became stunning young ladies.

Once they were ready, their new mama couldn’t wait to bring them home furever.

“Blood, sweat and tears, oh, and lots of caca! But we made it girls! I can’t believe your day is finally here. Let’s look back at the glow up from these once scraggly potatoes. Their amazing new mama has been patiently waiting for them and it was a joy to hand them over today ❤️” said Officer Byrne.
