Oopsie and Tiny are two sisters rescued as kittens with cerebellar hypoplasia (CH) in North Carolina. Simply put, it makes cats wobbly and off-balance, but they aren’t in pain. They can live long, happy lives with some accommodations like a carpeted environment to help cushion their tumbles. The symptoms vary widely; some cats may have minor issues while others need more help, but it’s not progressive. There is no cure, so it’s a lifetime condition.

When their new foster mama saw them at the shelter, Oopsie and Tina were shaking badly. Being scared and stuck in a shelter was worsening their tremors. Tiny Tina was the size of a 6-week-old at 10 weeks old but barely shook when calm. When she was grown, she earned the name “Tubby Tina,” a robust, healthy girl.

Their new mom, who goes by Kitty on TikTok, knew the cute “bobbleheads” needed a chance. Then, when an “old school” veterinarian in a rural area saw how badly they were shaking, they discouraged the adoption.

“You should just euthanize them. They’re painful to look at and will have no quality of life,” they said.

Magic Kittens with Cerebellar Hypoplasia

Nevertheless, Kitty knew they did deserve a chance, being well informed about cerebellar hypoplasia. She generally appreciates vets, but this one was unfamiliar with CH and didn’t want to refer her to a specialist (She has since changed to a new vet who adores the kittens). When she took in the sisters, they were her first fosters with CH, so she deserves much credit for taking on what might have seemed daunting.

When people saw the shaking kittens on social media, more than one recommended naming them Shake and Bake, but Kitty chose their unique cute names: Oopsie Daisy and Tiny Tina. Someone else dubbed them “Magic Kittens,” and the phrase stuck. She played with them like any kitten to help them grow stronger. After weeks of probiotics for tummy troubles and supportive care, their tremors lessened and “they absolutely thrived,” she said.

Oopsie and Tina Grow Up Healthy and Strong

Oopsie and Tina were a big hit at home, and a little girl said their tremors were their superpowers. The kittens had no idea they were any different but enjoyed “magic kitten playtime.” They continued to thrive and grow and learned how to use the litter pan, a challenge at first. Eventually, their symptoms greatly diminished as they improved their muscle tone. Today, you can hardly tell they have CH at all but this is not always the case for cats with the condition.

Second Birthday for Oopsie and Tina

A Purrmanent Loving Family

They reached the big milestone of spay day and were ready to find a new home. Turns out, home was right where they were all along, and they became a permanent part of the family! They turned two years old on February 24, 2023. You can see more of Oopsie, Tina and many furry fosters on TikTok.
