Crash will be donating $5K to the shelter of his choice and won the same amount for his family. Crash’s human, Maddie Corey, shared an amazing response to the win on Facebook:

“Crash won the Cadbury Bunny Tryouts! What an honor it was to work with the Cadbury Team and film his commercial. This was such an amazing experience and I’m so excited that Crash is becoming the star he’s always been! Plus, $5,000 will be donated to Simply Cats, and the $5,000 prize I won will be donated right back to Simply Cats! His commercial debuts on March 25, so keep your eyes peeled!” she shared.

Corey is the Outreach and Fundraising Coordinator at Simply Cats.

“We are over the moon that Crash is the next Cadbury Bunny and has gone from being hit by a car to a TV star,” Corey told Idaho News. “He’s the perfect pet to represent the resilience of rescue pets, and he is a natural in the spotlight. We appreciate the love and support he’s received from cat lovers nationwide, and the prize and donation money will go a long way in caring for the 1,000+ cats and kittens we’ll care for this year.”

Crash Wins the Crown After Surviving a Car Accident

Crash earned his name after being hit by a car in 2018, causing him to lose an eye and suffer severe injuries. He fractured his jaw and leg, and his recovery took months at Simply Cats. But he survived, thrived, and won over everyone at the local shelter. Eventually, he became the resident shelter cat and loves to do tricks like “high five” and much more.

“He charmed his way into becoming our resident shelter cat, impressing visitors by performing tricks (high five, sit pretty, & more). He reminds our community that every cat is worth saving,” stated Simply Cats rescue.

Cat Pawsitive High-Five Day

We previously shared how teaching cats this trick through the Cat Pawsitive National High-Five Day Contest helps shelter cats become adoptable. Simply Cats shared that they trained in the program years ago.

“Years ago our staff and volunteers were trained in the Cat Pawsitive Program, which is how Crash and many other kitties learned to high five, sit, and more! This program has had such a pawsitive impact for the cats in our shelter, especially the shy cats, and we are so grateful for their help! It is so heartwarming that Crash made such a positive impact on the Cat Pawsitive team…” they shared as they hoped to make history.

Jackson Galaxy said that Crash was “our favorite Cat Pawsitive cats of all time” when he learned that Crash was a finalist.

We love seeing Crash crowned the 2023 Cadbury Bunny, and we also love that the brand contributed $20K to the ASPCA in celebration of the fifth year of tryouts!

Former winners include:

  • Henri the English Bulldog (2019)
  • Lieutenant Dan the Treeing Walker Coonhound (2020)
  • Betty the Frog (2021)
  • Annie Rose the Therapy Dog (2022)
