Two beautiful kittens, Pumpkin and Spice, arrived at a San Jose rescue with horrible eye infections. But thanks to San Jose rescuers, they made a total recovery. The ulceration cleared, their eyes fully opened, and they are now healthy, happy kittens with healthy eyes. They just needed an intense regime of treatment and people who cared.

It’s something to remember if you or someone you know is caring for kittens with similar eye infections, which can be caused by numerous conditions. Sometimes, they can begin a dramatic recovery in just a few days with veterinary treatment. Check out the full transformation by the end of this article!
The rescuers from Mini Cat Town shared the “unboxing” video when calico Pumpkin and grey and white Spice first arrived. Seeing their eyes is disturbing, but unfortunately, this is common in litters born to feral cats. They were sick and slept a lot, and they weren’t sure the kittens would make it.
“A #kittenunboxing of some babies needing a little extra care, we can’t wait to help them feel better 🥰”

The Kitten’s Eye Infections Started Healing
The next day, the rescuers weren’t sure that Pumpkin was going to pull through. Both kittens were struggling, but she required fluids and ample medication.
“We’re hoping to save both kittens eyes, but we are unsure at this point. 😕 Please keep them in your thoughts today. ❤️” they shared.
As grim as things looked, both kittens dramatically recovered just days later (see below). The rescuers treated the kittens’ eyes every 15 minutes at first.
“At first, it was drops every 15 minutes and then 4 times a day on top of eye ointment and oral antibiotics twice a day, along with keeping their eyes clean from resulting discharge,” they shared.
You can see exactly what the treatment routine was like in the video by Mini Cat Town below:
After treatment, the swelling subsided, but Pumpkin’s left eye remained cloudy due to scarring. Fortunately, Spice’s eyes were both looking so much better! This recovery continued, and even Pumpkin’s cloudy eye slowly improved.
‘Eyeball Updates’ on Pumpkin and Spice
The rescue updated their followers on the incredible progress for Pumpkin and Spice’s eyes. They called it an “eyeball update,” which was great news. All four of the kittens’ eyes continued to improve. Possibly, Pumpkin’s cloudy eye would have some vision, they hoped. Aside from their eyes, the kittens were doing great, with strong appetites and playful behavior.
By the end of the month, these two were stunning beauties. One would never suspect they had ever had eye infections or ulcers. As you can see below, the kittens have beautiful, healthy eyes!
“Pumpkin’s vision is completely normal now! This means we got 4 nicely healed eyes!!”
- Once the kittens recovered fully, they met new playmates and had a great time together.
Although they loved meeting new friends, Pumpkin and Spice remained tightly bonded, and loved each other most of all.
Pumpkin and Spice Find a Furever Home Together
By the end of the following month, these two cuties were ready to start their new life together. A “wonderful family in Oregon” adopted Pumpkin and Spice, Mini Cat Town shared.
