What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than to promote finding true love at the local animal shelter? That’s what the self-described “catographer” Nils Jacobi decided to do this year for the day of compulsory shows of romantic love.

Set to the distorted tune of iconic George Michael’s Careless Whisper, beautiful house panthers, Cinnamon, and Sugar [Zimt und Zucker] pose ever-so-elegantly among a wreath of romantic red roses. The effect showcases the cats’ beautiful eyes in the middle of the roses.

Cinnamon and Sugar are from a local animal shelter and have an important message. If you’re ready for a lifetime commitment, the right cat or other pet is waiting for you right now. No matter where you are, you can find unconditional love like only a pet can offer. But you do have to be ready to open your heart and become their human servant in exchange. Ask any cat lover, and they will tell you they adore being owned by their cat/s.

In true cat form, the cute black kitties didn’t hold still for long. They came right for the camera.

The video below shows that these black kittens were anything but camera-shy. Those murder mittens are on full display with a lovable, cheeky, playful cattitude. Some commented they loved seeing the “murder mittens” or “Wolverine claws” amidst the roses.

The behind-the-scenes shots show this is an easy project to try at home. One could expect some hilarious shots of your kitty playing in the flowers. Just be sure the flowers are safe for cats. Please see our previous article for more about what kinds of plants are safe, which includes roses.

Other generally safe flowers include zinnias, gerbera daisies, sunflowers, roses, and snapdragons. But tulips, carnations (popular on Valentine’s Day), daffodils, and lilies are unsafe for kitties.

“Happy Valentine’s Day 🌹🖤 I took these shots at the local animal shelter recently. Homeless Kitties are waiting at a shelter near you 🫶,” Jacobi shared.

Behind the Scenes of the Valentine’s Day Shoot

Jacobi shared the behind-the-scenes of the Valentine’s Day photoshoot on his Instagram. He chose the two top Meowdels from the shelter because they were looking for homes in Germany at the time. He created more photos of the cats against a dark background to such a dramatic and regal effect.

Another picture is so cute with a little blep action that reminds us of the Cheshire Cat.

We love how this catographer is helping out the black cats, who still tend to wait longer in shelters. However, Cole and now mini panther Maz continue to help change all that. We hope that a family will be appreciating lots of Cinnamon, and Sugar in the near future.

“HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! 🧡🖤 We hope you’re all feline fine and get lots of sandpaper kisses today too 🙂,” Cole and Marmalade shared.
