Remember Mickey D; the kitten saved from a drive-through parking lot? Well, his rescuer is back to rescuing kittens again, and we just had to share!

Diana works at a Missouri hospital. One day recently, she arrived to find two kittens crying for help. So, she scrambled through brush, climbed trees, and saved them, despite being bitten. Then, she went back to work. Why does this not surprise us? She’s just that heroic!

First, an update on Mickey D:

Previously, she and her husband saved many kittens from dangerous situations. Last year, we shared the story of Mickey D, rescued from a drive-through in rural SW Missouri.

Multiple people came together to save the quick 2-month-old kitten that managed to get underneath the cars waiting in line. One couple went to great lengths to save Mickey D, chasing him around on their knees on hot asphalt. Needless to say, their skin wasn’t in great shape afterward. But look what came with their fries!

But it wasn’t this couple’s first time rescuing kitties. As it turned out, they had previously rescued many cats because they happened to be at the right place and time. We just knew it wouldn’t be the last time they saved a cat!

Since then, they have continued to share their life with Mickey D on social media. The “mischievous little guy” grew up into a wide-eyed tabby cat who’s still mischievous.

Recently, he’s been robbing the treats from the treat jar, shredding the Kleenex, and chasing grasshoppers through the window. Most days, he’s lounging on the catio and being “Mama’s little snuggle bug” and workout buddy without a care in the world (Cat dad also loves the furbabies dearly).

“Cat dad loves these furbabies!”

“Cat dad’s little helper! Got this picture texted to me this morning. Dad is having a hard time understanding that Mickey playing with the dishes in the strainer is his way of encouraging dad to get busy and put the dishes away we sure do love this little sweetheart!!”

Climbing Through Brush to Rescuing 2 Kittens

Mickey D’s mom Diana was late to work recently rescuing two more adorable kittens. They were hanging around a feral colony near the hospital employee parking lot where she works. The local Humane Society knew about the cats, but they have thus far been unable to TNR (trap, neuter, release) these kitties.

The location has many hiding places for cats and kittens to run and hide.

“The landscaping is terraced with multiple bushes and trees….excellent places to hide and get away from well-meaning hands,” she explained on Facebook.”

At first, Diana almost gave up, but then she heard the kittens crying, and that was it. She had to save them.

“So I am walking down the stairs and hear kittens crying. A couple of people getting off work were trying to reach them, but they had climbed up into some cedar trees. They left, and I started to walk away because I had to get to work, and I didn’t think we would be able to catch them, but as I walked away, their little distressed cries made me turn around,” she explained.

After trying to find help, she heroically decided she would go in herself.

“I climbed in the bushes and, after a brief struggle with the cedar tree and a bitten finger, was able to nab the little yellow and white kitten. The other one got away and ran up another taller cedar tree.”

After a kind person brought gloves and a cat carrier, she captured the second kitten. From there, a nurse who had seen the daring rescue took the kittens in the carrier to the Humane Society.

Covered in dirt, grime, and sweaty from chasing kittens, she returned to work looking disheveled.

“I must have looked a fright walking into the hospital, red-faced, sweaty, and dirt all over my face and arms. I looked like I had been rolling in the leaves and dirt! And I would do it all over again….hope these little souls can be socialized and find a good home! At least they will not suffer on the streets!” she said.

Later, Diana worried that the kittens, still very wild, would have trouble finding homes. They huddled in the back of the carrier, looking very spicy and trying to keep their rescuers away.

Update on the Rescued Kittens

In the latest update on Mickey D’s page, we see that the kittens soon overcame their fear. They have a new little friend and are adjusting rapidly to their new lives.

“How cute are these 2? I am over the moon and so happy that these little ones now seem to have a fighting chance to get adopted to a loving home! I am so beyond happy right now!”
