Mom Katie Barber shared an adorable TikTok of a kitten named Mushu, who recently joined the family.
When Barber was 5 months pregnant, she found the kitten at a drive-through. Immediately, she and her husband knew this kitten would be coming home, so they asked for some help from the restaurant.
“They gave us a box and an apron to bring him home in,” Barber explains.

Right away, you can see Mushu loves cuddling and getting lots of attention from Barber. As she holds him, you can see the kitten curling around her belly. It’s almost like the kitten is aware Emma is there and is waiting for her. Such an idea will be familiar to many pet parents who are bringing a new one into the world.
One day, it was time for baby Emma to arrive. And, Mushu was there by her side from the first day. Very often, he extends his little paws to touch the baby and is always gentle with her.
“He never leaves her side,” the caption reads. “We call him her guard cat.”
As you watch, there are adorable photos of the happy baby growing up with Mushu as “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell plays.
In each picture, you can see Mushu is like a magnet to the baby, curling around and touching her with a paw.

Another person picked up on the idea that Mushu was waiting for little Emma as if destined to be her companion from the beginning.

Then, someone complimented the mom-to-be for choosing to care for Mushu, even with a baby coming.
“Thank you for taking care of him even when you were preparing to have a child 🙏🏽 so many people give up on their pets when they get pregnant,” wrote Eileen Gutierrez.
In one scene, the kitten checks on the baby at bathtime.
“Omg I love how he’s checking she’s okay in the bath 😭” said Adam Fulmizi.
“I know 🥺 He’s like, “you good in there??? Don’t make me jump in,” replied Barber.
Today, Emma is 4-months old with the pretties “ocean eyes,” and Mushu is almost all grown up, with unusual light green eyes.
