Wally the kitten was lost and alone in the holiday aisle, but then a guardian angel appeared.
In late October, Annie, a mother of two from Ohio, went to Walmart to look at Christmas decor and spotted a meowing kitten wandering the expansive holiday aisles. Although she wasn’t expecting to take home a kitten, she knew in an instant that was exactly what was happening.
In a TikTok video, Annie says:
“I have always dreamed of this day,” she said with a laugh.
A Hungry Kitten Finds a Guardian Angel in Walmart
Fortunately for the mewing black and white kitten, Annie was there at the right moment. After some soothing words, the kitten playfully chased its tail.
Being at a Superstore, the woman had access to needed items like canned kitten food and a carrier. In the meantime, an empty cardboard box served as a temporary shelter.
“Ok, I found a box out here. He or she can clearly get out of it, but I went and got her a can of kitten food that I am going to pay for. Um…you’re dirty,” she said. “It’s ok. She’s very scared.”
After the kitten wolfed down the canned food, Annie shows the kitten perched on her shoulder.
“We’re purring, but still very scared,” the woman says as the kitten looks content. In the next scene, the kitten is meowing from inside a kitten carrier in the woman’s car.
“Oh, baby. Ok well, we bought a cat carrier and some kitten food in Walmart,” the woman says. “Yes, and we’re headed home.”
Wally the Lucky Walmart Kitten
And just like that, the kitten later named Wally (but of course) found a guardian angel in the Christmas aisle. Then, Annie started going by “Wally’s rescuer” on TikTok. On the video platform, she says she’s a 49-year-old mother of two boys.
“Worker told me this #kitten was dumped in the #Walmart parking lot. Kitty keeps sneaking into the Garden Center. I couldn’t leave it there. #fyp“
Wally the Kitten Goes Viral
On TikTok, the video shot to viral status, with over 5 million views within days. In the over 16K comments, one woman commented that the kitten’s purring indicated it trusted Wally’s rescuer from the start. In response, Annie stated, “I did have to lure him out with the can of food, and he tried escaping several times, but all worked out well.”
Another person commented:
“Why does everyone find baby animals except me?”
“Honestly, I felt the same way…I couldn’t believe this yesterday when it happened!!! I was just getting an early check on Christmas decor!” responded Annie.
In another comment, a woman wrote:
“She’s still very scared” …ma’am, can you imagine how many other shoppers were trying to catch her…SHE CHOSE YOU!! She’s NOT scared.”
Updates on Wally the Kitten
After all the online attention, Annie posted updates on Wally for his instant international fanbase. Then, you see a very content and relaxed-looking kitty. Wally is gently wrapped in a towel after a bath and wants his belly rubbed.
“Pretty sure it’s a boy. And everybody who’s been suggesting ‘Wally’ that’s funny because I had actually said that as we were leaving the parking lot,” said Annie.
“But it seems like he knows he’s been rescued,” she said as Wally playfully submitted his belly to his new mama, a sure sign of trust.
In subsequent videos, Wally’s rescuer discusses introducing Wally to her dog Harley and another cat, as well as a vet check. Judging by the kitty’s body language, he’s enamored with his guardian angel. Later, the vet has confirmed Wally is an “ornery” little boy about four or five months.
Other than being underweight, his health appears great though he’s remaining quarantined from the other pets. Later tests confirmed a case of roundworm, which required meds, but otherwise, Wally is a playful, happy kitten. And, his family considers him the best gift.
Recently, Annie shared that she has loved the “heartwarming” comments and plans to keep sharing their story on TikTok.
“As long as you’re still happy, and loving this little dude, I will keep posting,” she said.
