An 11-time Grammy winner, Taylor Swift, recently came out as an official Cat Lady in a TikTok video. Notably, the cute video is the second TikTok she has ever posted.

In the video, Swift shares a scene from her 2014 appearance on Live With Kelly and Michael. During the interview, she discussed getting her second cat and whether that meant she was a “cat lady.”

“Before I got the second cat, I was kind of canvassing everyone I knew, going, ‘Is cats, cat lady?’ Or you know, two cats is cats and there’s more than one. And they’re like, ‘No, three cats is a cat lady, two cats is a party,'” Swift says in the clip.

Then, the video transitions to Swift in 2021, walking by with one of her kitties. Then, she appears proudly holding up her two remaining cats. Their names are Benjamin Button, Olivia Benson, and Meredith Grey.

Taylor Swift’s Rise to Cat Lady Status

In 2019, Taylor Swift met Benjamin Button on the set of her music video for “ME!” At the beginning of the video, Meredith and Olivia appear on a couch, but Benjamin wins over her heart later.

As you can see in the behind-the-scenes video below, she was instantly smitten with the kitten, as were others on set.

As Swift held the kitten, she loved how much he purred and enjoyed being with people.

“He flops over on his back and gets belly rubs,” said Buttons’ handler.

“Can I have him?” responded Swift.

“He is available,” the woman replied.

And that, of course, sealed the deal, as Swift was surprised the kitten could be hers. Then, she introduced the purry Button to her Dad, Scott, who immediately fell in love too.

“I’ve never had a cat love people this much,” Swift said. “Look how sweet he is.”

“I know kittens are cute, but that kitten is special,” she later told “Panic! At The Disco” singer Brendon Urie. “He’s an amazing, amazing little animal.”

“I love that you got him too,” said Urie. “It’s the sweetest thing.”

“And whenever I watch the video, I’ll just be like that’s the first time I saw him,” Swift said, already picturing her life with Benjamin Button.

“That is actually really sweet, recorded in history forever,” said Urie, who loved the kitten’s “little blue eyes.”

Later, Swift had fallen madly in love as she planned on introducing Olivia and Meredith to their new little brother.

“Oh my God, I love this little cat. So now, Meredith and Olivia are having a little brother. That’s what’s happening.” she said.

“You’re going to have two sisters,” she said. “They’re going to be really nice to you, maybe not at first, but just because they’re jealous.”

Taylor Swift Cats Cameo

And thus, Swift became an official “Cat Lady,” going by her friends’ standards. If you need more evidence, she had a cameo in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s film adaptation of the musical “Cats” in 2019. For the film, she plays a Bengal cat named Bombalurina. Below, you can see her sing “Macavity: The Mystery Cat,” acting alongside Judi Dench.

During the number, Bombalurina descends on a lighted moon and sprinkles glittery catnip onto a group of cats below. Then, they are hypnotized as part of a nefarious plan by Macavity, played by Idris Elba.

Often, Taylor Swift shares pictures of her cats on Instagram. For National Cat Day, the singer shared a video celebrating Benjamin’s “fluffy toe beans” and “overstuffed floof feet.”

Recently, people noticed that there weren’t many pictures of Meredith. So, Swift addressed the rumors. According to her, Meredith is “just a really private little cat” who “hates having her picture taken.”

“She doesn’t like a camera shoved in her face and who can blame her?” said Swift.

Meredith the cat

“For Meredith, self quarantining is a way of life. Be like Meredith.”
