This one is for all the cat-loving Disney fans of the world. If you grew up obsessed with both cartoons and cats, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with the animated kid’s movie called The Aristocats. It originally came out in 1970 (I know, hard to believe it’s been that long), and it’s been a cat lover’s favorite ever since. Now almost 50 years later, we officially have real-life Aristocats!
The movie stars a high-society feline named Duchess and her three pampered kittens. The family of cats goes on a grand adventure that includes meeting a charming ginger tabby and his group of jazz-singing strays. There’s a lot to love about the comedic and heartwarming movie, and a rescue cat named Duchess just gave us another reason to dig out our old VHS player. Duchess recently gave birth, and her family couldn’t help but notice something strange—and wonderful—about her brood.

Shelby Sewell-Lopez from East Texas adopted Duchess in 2018.
The fluffy cat needed time to recuperate after her life as a stray, but with love and attention, she soon blossomed into a gorgeous cat. Shelby named her new cat Duchess, and it’s easy to see why. With her fluffy white fur and aura of grace and poise, she looks exactly like Duchess from The Aristocats. Shelby assumed her cat’s connection to the Disney movie would end with her name and good looks, but then something unexpected happened.
One day, Shelby found Duchess hiding in an upstairs closet with what looked like a mouse. When she looked closer, however, she saw it wasn’t a mouse at all—it was a kitten! Thinking that Duchess had been spayed, Shelby didn’t quite believe what she was seeing. But as she watched, Duchess gave birth to three more tiny kittens.

As if a surprise litter of kittens wasn’t enough, it didn’t take long for Shelby to notice an incredible coincidence. The three oldest kittens looked exactly like the three kittens in The Aristocats. Even their genders matched the fictional trio. Shelby had no choice but to name the real-life Aristocats accordingly—Marie, Toulouse, and Berlioz. As for the “bonus” kitten, he might not be an official Aristocat, but he’s just as loved. His name is Blue, and he’s the official Aristokittes manager.
So without further ado, we present to you the real-life Aristocats:

Once the internet caught sight of these real-life Aristocats, there was no stopping their rise to fame. The adorable family now has their own Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Shelby and her family decided they couldn’t bear to separate the famous kittens, so all five still live together. They are all spayed/neutered and enjoy doing all the things cats love. The kittens celebrated their first birthday on July 7th and chowed down on a homemade tuna and catnip cake.
We can’t wait to follow this famous family as they continue to grow!
