We are please to present to you…*drum roll*… Baby Ethel!
She is one of the newest residents at The Odd Cat Sanctuary in Salem, Massachusetts.

This adorable little fluff ball is 4 weeks old and has no idea she’s considered “different” to the world.
Ethel was born blind and diagnosed with Hydrocephalus.
She was found as a stray kitten wandering alone and brought into a shelter. Unfortunately, it was a high-kill shelter.
When Tara Kay, founder of The Odd Cat Sanctuary saw the desperate face of the kitten, she rushed to her rescue. This was Ethel’s “death row” photo. =(

Tara and her team of amazing volunteers and fosterers knew that she couldn’t survive without them.
Foster mom, Nicole, happily accepted young Ethel into her home.

Despite her handicaps, Ethel is just like any other kitten.
…Although she may sometimes bump into a few things while learning her way around! She is a happy and playful kitten just the same.
The hydrocephalus is what concerns her caregivers most.
This condition is sometimes referred to as “water on the brain”. Until Ethel is seen by a Neurologist and has an MRI, they aren’t sure what could have caused this or the specific type she has, but it could be genetic.

If Ethel’s hydrocephalus is a mild case, she may only require routine visits to ensure any minor medical treatments can be administered right away.
Lucky, with the team of saviors at her side, Ethel was off to the doctors just a few hours ago!
They have started to fund-raise for Ethel to help cover her medical costs.

So far, she is eating and drinking great and weighing in at a healthy 1-pound. She is right on track with other kittens her age!

While her new life is just beginning, we know that being in the care of Tara, Nicole and The Odd Cat Sanctuary, she will have every chance at a long, healthy life.

Ethel absolutely loves snuggling with foster mom, Nicole. She climbs right in her sweater; the PURRfect self-swaddling spot.

The look of purr bliss on her face during a satisfying ear rub is sure to bring a smile to your face.

When it is time for her to move on to her fur-ever family, they will certainly cherish her precious soul.

Such a sweet tiny little girl. I think it’s a miracle that the Odd Cat Sanctuary came across Ethel when she was in a desperate situation. I love what the Odd Cat Sanctuary does and stands for. They are an inspiration to all.
