Batgirl, an 11-year-old one-eyed house panther, arrived as a struggling shelter kitten in the foster home where she was eventually adopted. She makes the best of every day with a house full of similarly rascally characters. Many of them were fostered through a rescue dedicated to saving senior pets in Philly.
For over seven years, Batgirl has been sharing hilarious posts from her viewpoint along with her furry friends. Many wonderful senior cats have come and gone over the years, and she’s overcome many challenges of her own. But fate seems to be very kind to her.

Batgirl’s Motto: ‘Make. It. Great’
Come what may, this cat’s focus is about creating the best “Book of Life” that you can. She has a determination to “Make. It. Great,” a motto concluding each post.
“Each day is a brand new chance to try and get it right. Keep your head up and your eyes looking ahead. Learn what you can from the days behind you, then move on! TODAY is where you get the chance to MAKE. IT. GREAT,” Batgirl shared.

A Home Where They’re Fully Appreciated
Batgirl, or Beetle, as she’s called, doesn’t remember much about those early days on the street or shelter. But when she met her future humans, everything got brighter, as it did for the other fortunate cats here. They’re fully appreciated as perfect just the way they are by Mom and Dad.
“There were a few crazy weeks on the street and in the shelter before my Batgirl life started, but I can’t remember them very well. I was just a blind little nugget. But when Mom came for me, everything in my one-eyed world got bright and I knew I was safe. And I knew I was home,” Batgirl shared.

The partially blind house panther shares life with two other black cats. Morse Code lost both his eyes as a baby and Dottie Dash, who retained her vision.
“Three ‘less adoptable black cats. Pure perfection in this house. Make. It. Great.”
How These Cats Enjoy Each Day
For this one-eyed house panther, making each day great might not be what you’d expect. For example, it might include pushing her siblings off the cat tree.
“On today’s episode of This Cat’s Life, I will spend the day pushing cats off of the cat tree and not feeling one bit bad about it. The moral of the story is that when you are BG, you don’t have to share. Ever,” she shared.
Other activities on a given day usually involve Bird TV on the Catio. But sometimes, they have surprise guests, a friendly squirrel, turkey, deer, or the “whistle pigs,” groundhogs that live under the shed.
“Our turkey friend stopped by to grab some lunch today. We REALLY like her,” shared Batgirl.
Another favorite activity for the foster cats is gathering around the wood stove. Each kitty has their own bed, but they might not always share with the newbies. And Morse Code tends to take up lots of extra room (He’s in the middle below).
“Yes hello! Fire + Sunshine + Tiny Basket = One Glorious Sunday. MAKE. IT. GREAT,” shared Batgirl.
Some Real Cat Characters
Although she’s quite the character, there are many in this home. One of them is Football Head, a rescued salty fluffball with curly hair for days, which he proudly calls his “squigglepelt.” His cattitude is off the charts!
Suffering from tummy troubles and a pokey tooth, he can be an irritable curmudgeon but is all the more lovable. His luxurious blue coat needs regular trimming and bathing, but a trim makes his head look even bigger.

Nevertheless, he’s proud of his squigglepelt and often tempts passers-by to look but beware of touching! Remember, his motto is “All the salt.”

Morse Code the Handsomest Blind Cat
Then, there’s brother Morse Code, or Morsie, the always-smiling blind house panther. He earned the title from Mom of “The Most Handsome Eyeless Cat in the World.” Despite being blind, he is amazingly able to find his way around. He even joins in bird watching, and has always been a sun worshipper.
“Even though I can feel the sun, I still sense that kisses are about to rain down from the sky! Amirite, Mom? Love, Morse Code”
Ameowzingly, Morse Code’s messages are really in Morse Code. For example, the one below, which translates to, “A new kick stick makes me the happiest boy in the land!”
In general, Morse Code is known for taking up as much space as he can.

Getting Softer with Age
Although not always a sharer, Batgirl has her softer moments, too. On rare occasions, she’s even been caught being cuddlywith Morse Code. Her Mama says Batgirl might be getting soft in her old age.
And like Morsie, the house panther loves to stay near Mom. Over the last few months, she’s “disrupted the assembly of eight puzzles, and performed 61 scratch pole dances,” she says on Facebook.
With their hilarious posts, Batgirl and friends remind us that each day is full of ups and downs and many quirky moments. It’s up to us to make it great however we can.
The charismatic cats here show us that life with rescued senior and blind cats is anything but ordinary.
