Trapped in a debris filled elevator shaft, an 8-year-old tuxedo cat meowed loudly, begging for help. It was in Cleveland, Ohio at an apartment building where the residents discovered the pleading feline. But they couldn’t reach him, so they reached out to the Cleveland Animal Protective League for help.
The Elevator Shaft Would NOT Be His Final Resting Place
The residents had been attempting to drop food down the the cat. If he could survive, maybe they would have the time to figure out a way to release him. But as time ticked by, nothing was working. That’s when they called in the professionals. Even though this was a unique situation, the team jumped into action. They got in contact with the elevator company to see if they could assist. And they were able to coordinate with everyone to safely turn off the elevators. That alone had to help the scared cat as there would be no elevator cars whirring loudly and racing down above his head.
With the elevators turned off, the team was able to take the next steps. Literally. They could now safely venture into the reportedly ‘debris-filled shaft”. And with that, they were finally able to retrieve the needy cat from the dark tomb.
Life is Looking Up Now
The team named the sweet cat Ellie, in nod to the elevator shaft he was found in. And they set about to caring for him at the Cleveland Animal Protective League.
The poor boy was noted to be in ‘rough shape’ they said on a post online.
“[Our] veterinary team who noticed right away he was in rough shape — dirty, dehydrated, and very thin. Ellie was vaccinated, neutered, and of course, received lots of love as he healed in our clinic. After a few weeks recovering, Ellie is the handsome and friendly cat you see today!”
