A vet’s marketing specialist with a very healthy sense of humor shared the ‘incredibly important’ story of Precious, a cat with huge green eyes. A rescued kitty, Precious always looks like she’s in a state of shock, but also a bit like Gollum from the Lord of the Rings. Or Mr. Whiskers from Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie?

First, let’s point out that a healthy sense of humor is required for anyone in rescues, shelters or vet’s offices. Laughter is essential medicine when dealing with so much pain, suffering, and loss. And although this kitty looks unusual, she’s perfectly healthy, and everyone caring for her fell deep in love with her.

Why is This Cat So Precious?
Well, needless to say, everyone wondered why this kitty’s eyes looked that way. In an update, the pet care center shared some happy news: extensive testing showed she just has unusual eyes but is healthy. At an ophthalmologist’s suggestion, they tested for aqueous misdirection syndrome, which can lead to glaucoma, but she was ‘perfectly normal.’

Another possibility was central heterochromia, which causes ‘the inner ring of the iris to be a different color than that outer proportion.’ But it’s not something that harms a cat and is usually seen in white cats.
Whatever caused her unique eyes, Precious, an adopted kitty, was extremely lovable and patient with everyone caring for her. She’s such a sweet and unique senior cat and can see just fine. But the vets will always check her eyes for any changes when she returns for checkups.
“As far as we can tell right now, Precious is just an older kitty with some really green eyes,” they shared. “Bottom line: she’s gorgeous and we all wish we were as cool as she is,” they said on Instagram.

Precious Lives in a Loving Home
After clearing up that Precious was doing fine, everyone wanted to be sure she had a loving home. As it turned out, she was just staying temporarily in the wonderful boarding facility in Orange County, CA while her mom was on vacation.
“I can assure you that if she wasn’t already adopted, one of our team members would have already adopted her,” said Diana.
Vet tech loves Precious, who was staying while her mom was on vacation.
Precious became extremely popular online, much like other cats we’ve seen with unusual eyes. If you have a question about your cat’s eyes, just ask a vet to check them for any potential issues. For example, Jess and Chris routinely have Marmalade’s eyes checked due to a tiny freckle, which is probably harmless. But they watch for any changes that could indicate trouble.
