Leapin’ Lily is a lucky, fluffy tuxie who loves leaping to her foster mom, Grace, for cuddles. Today, you’d never know the beautiful meowdel was once in a sad and desperate state in a shelter.

Warning: Images may be disturbing to some viewers.

One day, Grace visited the California shelter, and friendly Lily seized the moment, reaching through the cage bars to beg the experienced rescuer to take her home! We see it repeatedly: cats just know when they spot their humans! But this kitty left no doubt she wanted to go home now!

Leaping Lily Reaches Out for Help

As it turned out, Leaping Lily desperately needed a confident, experienced rescuer. She had sarcoptic mange, commonly called feline scabies, a horrible contagious parasitic mite that burrows under the skin and can eventually lead to dangerous complications if left untreated.

All she wanted to do was play, but instead, Lily was itching and scratching endlessly. Without treatment, the constant irritation would never end.

Fortunately, Lily caught Grace’s eye at just the right moment and became the second rescue at the newly-established Happy Kitty Rescue. We previously shared the story of the first, a cutie patootie Ed Sheeran look-alike kitten named Badger.

Once safely in foster care, the four-month-old tuxie got her first of many baths to combat the pesky mites. Ameowzingly, it didn’t take long before she enjoyed the bath and grooming, rather rare for a new rescue!

After bath time, Grace learned that this kitty’s favorite thing is leaping to her for cuddles, sweetly offering the cutest kisses to thank and reward her! How could you not fall in love with her?

Energetic Lily Plays Away Quarantine

The beautiful tuxie needed at least a month of treatment to permanently knock those annoying mites out. During that time, the intelligent, playful kitten also needed to be isolated to keep it from spreading mange to other cats, pets, or people. Yes, the pests can move to people, although feline mange can’t reproduce on humans. But Grace wore gloves and wasn’t affected by it, so the joyful snuggles were nonstop. Some people will be more sensitive, particularly those with compromised immune systems, so always use your best judgement.

What’s an energetic, intelligent kitty to do for a month of isolation? Well, she had plenty of toys in her foster room to help her enjoy her time as much as possible.

“So far I’ve learned that Lily is an extremely smart and playful kitten! She is just thrilled to be out of the shelter and loves sprinting around the room playing with all the toys ☺️.”

Lily Leaps into a Family’s Heart Furever After One More Hurdle

After a month of treatment, Lily appeared fully healed. She already found a furever home, so everything seemed to be going purrfect. But right before she was about to start her new life, a vet diagnosed secondary bacterial skin infections from the mange. She had antibiotic-resistant MRSP, a form of staph, and Enterococcus.

“It’s not totally clear why she developed these infections. Our best guess is that she had previous irritation from the mange, and when she got spayed her immune system was stressed and it triggered these bacterial skin infections. Poor girl can’t catch a break! 😔” the rescue shared.

So, for another month, Lily would remain at the rescue to complete a course of two different antibiotics prescribed by a dermatologist, along with probiotics to help her tummy. Happily, she remained a “trooper” and didn’t seem to mind one bit with plenty of love daily.

Best of all, her adopters are happy to wait for the day she’s fully healed to start their new life together. Once again, Lily has leaped straight into the hearts of the right people!
