What could be prettier than this calico mama cat, Mama Chorizo and her three adorable kittens? Someone surrendered this picture-purrfect family to a shelter in Orange County, Florida. At the shelter, Chorizo began vomiting up bits of plastic which required immediate medical attention! She may have been desperate to find food so she could care for her litter. So she possibly got into something in the trash as a last resort.
Shelters in Florida are constantly overwhelmed during kitten season and depend on local rescuers for help. That’s when Liberation Cat House in Central Florida responded to the call and nurtured barely one-year-old Chorizo back to health so she could continue caring for her cutie pies.
“Mama started feeling poorly and not eating, and she started vomiting up bits of plastic. OCAS quickly realized that mama needed additional medical support so they started reaching out to rescues to see who could assist. We were so happy to be able to lend and hand! Mama is now stabilized and doing great and her little babes are growing!” shared Liberation Cat House.
Mama Chorizo and Her Spanish Charcuterie Cuties
Safe in their loving foster home, the kittens received Spanish charcuterie-themed names.
“My new fosters! Mama Chorizo (because she’s just a touch spicy), baby Jamon (because he’s a ham), baby Cabrales (white with grey colors & blue eyes = blue cheese), and baby Manchego! Pretty obvious I went with a Spanish charcuterie theme here, lol,” said foster mom Ai Nakamura.
Mama Chorizo is Still a Kitten
Mama Chorizo was a protective mama at her young age. Often, kittens that are first-time mothers will neglect their litter. Even four-month-old kittens can have kittens and then all need rescue. Fortunately, Chorizo was an exceptionally good mother. This is the ideal little family for fist-time fosterers to provide a home for. Aside from being incredibly cute, the kittens were all healthy, and strong.
“This [mama] is the best mom any kittens can have; she’s always watching over her babies & will go into attack mode on cue if she senses her babies are in any kind of danger,” Ai shared.
After Liberation Cat House helped cover the veterinary care, the gorgeous mama and kittens thrived, each reaching over a pound. As cute as the kittens were, Chorizo’s photogenic silly purrsonality shone through, and her foster mom fell in love with her sassiness.
This will be Chorizo’s last litter. Now, she can be a kitten again.
After all she went through, Mama Chorizo is ready to return to being a kitten. But she was the best mama for her little ones.
“She’s just a kitten herself at only one year old, so she’s just waiting for her forever home where she can just be fun-loving, no care in the world kitty again! She’ll need a patient, true cat lover human that can work with her skittishness & fear of loud noises, but once she earns your trust she will be your bestest friend! 😍😍”
Ready to Share Their Spice
At the time of this writing, Mama Chorizo and her bebés are ready to start their new lives.
“Mama Chorizo lives up to her name, she is a sweet Mama but has a little spice. She would need an adopter who can give her time and patience as her trust is earned,” Liberation Cat House shared.
Meanwhile, the cutie charcuteries’ purrsonalities have emerged.
- Manchego thinks he’s a Kangaroo and loves to hang out on his back legs and play. Loves his siblings.
- Jamon is a silly cuddle bug, always doing cute things for attention. Best friend of brother Manchego.
- Princess Cabrales, or Cabby, is cuteness overload and Mama’s little girl who has some growing to do.
Hopefully, the right family will bring a charcuterie board and they can stay together forever!
