Our own Cat Man Chris, was out caring for a feral cat colony on a Sunday when he spotted two kitten siblings meowing in distress. But their meows sounded hoarse. A little gray male kitten and his sister, a tabby, badly needed help. They had sore throats from meowing for the missing mother, possibly for days. Fortunately, Chris sprang into action, catching the kittens from under a car.
An Unexpected Rescue of Two Kitten Siblings
“When I went out to feed this morning I wasn’t expecting to come home with these two… but rescue happens when you’re trying to get other stuff done,” Chris said on Instagram.
Although the kittens were scared, they were very lucky indeed and would soon be VIP guests of the Catty Shack. But first, he had to organize it again since it held many items stashed during Hurricane Ian. The Catty Shack is an example that you don’t necessarily need lots of room to help foster kittens at home.
First, he checked to ensure the mother cat wasn’t around, but she was gone.
“I’m sure these cuties won’t mind in a day or two… I saw the grey one bolt across the road, and it was meowing like it had a sore throat… sure enough, I found out after grabbing them both from under a car they’ve been meowing like that since Friday, and they hadn’t seen a mom cat anywhere,” he explained.
The Friendly Kittens Soon Find a Foster Home
After a flea bath, the kittens were looking much happier. They quickly became friendly, and it became apparent they probably had been around people before.
“These two got a much-needed bath yesterday; they were really filthy and had a bunch of fleas on them too. But they’re both getting friendly quick, especially the tabby (she also had a little cut/scab on her lip) … I’m not sure what the deal is with these two, and where they came from, they haven’t been acting like true feral kittens… just scared but not aggressive… if I were to guess I’d say they were dumped outside, but who knows…?” Chris said.
With colder weather moving into Florida, the kittens needed to find a foster home. Once again, the kittens had great luck with Happy Tailz Cat Rescue, Inc.
“While we won’t be sure how their story began, we know that from now on, they will be safe, well fed and warm. Thankfully Happy Tailz Cat Rescue, Inc had a foster home with space, so they’ll be saying goodbye to the Catty Shack today just in time before the cold front comes our way, have a nice life, cuties!” Chris said.
Happy Tailz Cat Rescue to the Rescue
The kitten siblings found a great foster home, where they would stay until old enough to be spayed, neutered, and adopted. Right away, the kittens were playing and exploring their new home.
Happy Tailz asked followers to help them come up with the purrfect names on Facebook. So far, there’s no clear winner.

A New Foster Dad for the Kitten Siblings
These two kitten siblings are safe with a new foster dad, Zach. He started winning over the hearts and minds of the kittens, who were a little nervous at first.

The next day, the kittens were already so much friendlier, enjoying being petted.
It looks like Zach made a strong connection with the tabby.
She enjoyed climbing on her foster dad, but it made getting work done a little challenging. Oh well, who can be productive on a Friday anyway?
The two adorable kitten siblings will be looking for forever homes soon in the St. Petersburg, Florida area. You can see more and help foster babies like this brother and sister duo at Happy Tailz Rescue Inc. on Instagram and Facebook, as well as Cat Man Chris on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
Here are some reasons why adopting kittens in duos is a great idea from Cat Man Chris.
