Earlier this year we wrote about a truly brave little cat named Merlin. He survived the horrific Colorado wildfires (called the Marshall Fire) that destroyed his home and at least 500 others. This poor cat was badly burned but was somehow able to summon the strength to make his way to the one house in his neighborhood that was still standing. His fierce determination in the face of what must have been horrible pain has led some folks to think Merlin is almost “magical” People magazine reported at the time.
His owner, Camden Hall, says Merlin really has lived up to his name.
“Little Wizard,” Hall says. “Little magician.”
Merlin Isn’t Looking Back.
And the good news is this adorable little wizard continues to thrive, much to Hall’s delight.
“Merlin is doing amazing and he’s back to his old self; drinking out of the bathtub, cleaning himself, going for car rides and following me around the house. After 4 whole months of wearing that silly cone, he’s finally free at last (well to be honest, he still has to wear it a little bit but more about that later). All his paws have healed up nicely, as well as his face. He had a couple of small scabs still and a little sore above his right eye,” Camden writes in a Facebook post. “Besides those minor things he’s a healed kitty. I can’t tell you the joy it brings me to see him back to his old self and being active.”
We’re happy right along with Camden!
This is one brave cat who definitely isn’t looking back, and Camden is grateful to all the folks who helped him and Merlin get there.
“I cannot thank everyone whose helped me out during this extremely hard time,” he writes in his Facebook post. “Merlin and myself wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for all your love, help, and support. A huge thank you to the wonderful and extremely talented staff at Northside Emergency Pet Clinic!! They are the best and have repaired this kitty back to normal.”
“It’s been a long road this year and I couldn’t be happier with where my life is at. Thank you again everyone for all the donations, love, and support,” Hall said.
Merlin Is Growing Stronger Daily.
Because Merlin is doing so well, Camden decided to enter him in America’s Favorite Pet contest where he made it all the way up to third place in the Semifinals. Not bad for a kitty who continues to feel better every day. He’s definitely a lively cat and has managed to pull off his blue satellite collar every now and then.
“First of all, I want to thank all of Merlin’s beautiful followers who supported him all the way through America’s Favorite Pet to make 3rd place in the Semifinals!!!,” Camden wrote in another Facebook post. “I never thought he would make it so far in this competition and Merls couldn’t of done it without all of you! Merlin and I are so blessed and fortunate to have all your love and support!”
He is such a beautiful little guy, and he’s come through so much. We can’t help but think he has tremendous emotional and physical strength to survive something this devastating.
“Merlin had almost made a full recovery ❤️🩹 He’s looking at probably two more bandage changes and he should be a free kitty! That little rascal has managed to pull off his blue satellite cone and bandage almost once a month. I don’t blame the poor guy, it’s been almost 3 months wearing that annoying cone and having his paws wrapped up. He’s feeling more like himself day by day, he’s exploring the house lately. As you can see he’s been hanging out in the bathroom, I think that’s his new favorite spot. I can’t believe how far this tough, badass kitty has come!”
Camden noted he’s thankful to the Northside Emergency Pet Clinic and added “if it wasn’t for them I don’t if my beloved Merlin would of made it!”
Rising From The Ashes.
Now Merlin only has one more hoop to jump through. Camden tells us there’s only one more step to making sure his baby boy is completely well again.
“At the moment just one last hurdle,” he says. “Above his right eye where the top part of his eyelid is peeled back a bit from the burns there is still a small open wound. I’ve taken his cone off; however I realize he’ll need it for a lil longer as he’s been scratching at it.”
What a real trouper this sweet cat is! He must know how much his dad loves him and we hope he has a long, happy life. After what he’s survived he certainly deserves it. 🧡
