Butterscotch the kitten appeared on cam after volunteers waited patiently for weeks. Then, all their efforts finally paid off.

A team of cat rescuers in St. John’s in Canada were in for the long haul trying to save a mama cat and kittens. Catching the mother and her babies proved a real challenge since she moved them right after someone called to report the cat’s location.

In the late spring, not-for-profit Forget Me Not Animal Rescue received a message about a litter of kittens. The mother had given birth underneath a shed in someone’s backyard. So, they planned to go the next day to see for themselves. Unfortunately, the mother cat was already gone by the time they arrived on the scene.

“By the time we arrived the next day, Momma decided to move the kittens,” they wrote.

However, they knew that the mother was nearby, so the volunteers would play the long game and wait.

The Long Game to Catch Maggie and Kittens

By this time, they were calling the mother cat Maggie, and they knew she would be very hungry feeding her litter. So, the volunteers would set up a feeding station. However, they couldn’t catch her while she had kittens to feed.

“So our only course of action was to set up a feeding station for Momma to make sure she was well fed and also so she would bring the kittens when they were old enough. She came every day, 3 to 4 times a day, and filled her belly,” they said.

Along with the feeding station, they set up a camera to keep a watch on any activity. Hopefully, the kittens would show up one day, and eventually, their patience paid off.

Calico Kitten Butterscotch Caught on Cam

One day, Maggie’s adorable calico kitten, later dubbed Butterscotch, appeared on camera. Then, they had to be extra patient as they attempted to catch her.

“We watched her all week and were finally able to get her Friday. And as they say, it takes a village! Meet Butterscotch! This 7-week old calico girl is doing great,” they said.

Already, someone involved in the rescue wanted to take Butterscotch home when she was ready. As for the remaining kittens, they had spotted one, but it had disappeared. Hopefully, the kitten would turn up one day.

Butterscotch Grows Up Fast

By ten weeks old, Butterscotch was “a playful little girl, FULL of energy,” the rescuers said.  While she loved other kitties, she was no pushover either.

“She is great with cats, although [she] likes to be the boss. Lol.”

Soon after the post of the pretty calico, someone wanted to adopt Butterscotch. However, after it fell through, another person soon came forward.

“Butterscotch is having her morning bath. 🥰”

Now the kitten is living in her forever home, still looking pretty as a picture.

Momma Maggie Captured After Eight Weeks

After capturing Butterscotch, the volunteer rescuers finally captured Maggie. Now, she will live out her life comfortably without having kittens requiring rescue (and weeks of hard work, effort, and expense) again.

“It’s a happy Sunday! Cause Momma Maggie will no longer be outside! Maggie is Butterscotch’s Momma, who we have been tracking for the past eight weeks. And we finally caught her last night!”
