You know when you find that one item; that thing that don’t NEED but you just MUST have? Now imagine finding it and finding out that it helps cats too. Bonus! That’s exactly what mooncat nail polish is; the purrfect product. No, sadly we’re not affiliated with them, but happy to spread awareness of their pawsome deeds.
Mooncat was created as an act of rebellion.
As with, lets be honest, most of us, we experienced a rebellious phase in our teen years. But mooncat founder and CEO, Michelle Lin turned that defiant stance into a thriving business that really took hold during Covid. She specifically immigrated to the US from Taiwan just to start the business which is all made in the USA. Now, she’s even collaborated with Disney on 3 collections!
“To me, nail polish has always been a symbol of rebellion. growing up, I wasn’t allowed to wear it, which… obviously made me want to more. It became a deeply expressive process, and I was constantly searching for products that brought both the artistic element and the quality I was looking for. I couldn’t find them, so I made my own.”
Not to mention, their website sprinkles stars from your mouse pointer as you scroll through all the ‘wearable art’ collections! It’s the little things that matter, right? And to Michelle, the things that are important to her have translated into her company.
“mooncat is meant for creative minds that see nails as an art form. it’s for unconventional people who have spent their lives refusing to accept the ordinary. Here, you can embrace your quirks and idiosyncrasies, and feel less like an anomaly. Weirdos, welcome home. :)”
Ok, it’s great nail polish. But why is mooncat different?
Michelle is a full on super cat lady, her own cat named Watermelon, likely as sweet as her name. When she wants to be that is. Michelle’s love of felines is how the name came about when her company rebranded from their former name “Live, Love, Polish”. Speaking to “Abe the Nail Babe” on a YouTube podcast, the two lovingly gushed about their respective cats and how she felt the immediate connection to the new name ‘mooncat’.
Reminiscing about how her love for nail polish began and learning the ups and downs in business, she found she loves the ‘creativity and artistry’ the most. It’s not about the money for her, it’s about the creativity.
She feels she’s an “artist first, and then business owner second and then maybe a [content] creator”.
One of the gorgeous things about a number of mooncat’s polishes are that they are magnetic! With their magnetic wand, as soon as you paint the nail, you can hold the magnet over the polish and it creates the cats eye effect.
But even more amazing, the nail polish helps cats find homes!
Michelle’s fondness for cats and desire to share her art with the world, inspired her to also help felines where she can. When you make a purchase on their site, 10% goes to America’s first Japanese inspired cat cafe; the Koneko Cat Cafe in Manhattan. Cutely enough, Koneko means “kitten” and is a purrfect name. Here people can visit adoptable cats, ideally finding their furever feline. And because of her love for black cats and the mystical, they’ve partnered with rescues to help those felines who are also rebelling against false narratives too.

Each collection that is released is simply stunning and from the pawsitive reviews, lasts weeks. Whenever a new collection is released, Michelle also writes up a little description that is too perfect. The newest collection just released is the FALLEN collection.
