In Florida, kitten season is year-round. As the summer reaches its peak, it’s the purrfect time to Clear the Shelters with adoptions nationwide. And the Miami Heat basketball players are doing their part!
Recently signed to the team, basketball star Kel’el Ware is a standout. For one thing, the former Oregon Duck and Indiana Hoosier has a 7-foot-4.5-inch wingspan, and he’s a standout player for his versatile, crowd-pleasing performance on the court. But we’re not here to talk about sports. As it turns out, Kel’el scores big points with the cat lovers too!
Team Shares Kel’el Ware’s Kitten Adoption
At the peak of summer heat in Miami, Kel’el has stepped up to adopt a kitten from Miami-Dade Animal Services.
As you can see, the outcome could melt quite a few hearts out there!
There’s nothing that makes you feel at home like having a furry companion to cuddle with.
At this time of year, shelters and rescues everywhere are packed with animals needing loving homes. As we often say, adopting two bonded kittens or cats is a great idea which actually makes it easier for adopters. (Or why not three!)
“Since y’all loved the cat content so much, here’s some more pics of Kel’el & Lykos 🥹,” the Miami Heat shared.
Miami Heat Says ‘Adopt, Don’t Shop!’
“It’s not home without a pet to share it with ❤️Kel’el Wareteamed up with Miami-Dade Animal Services and [their foster providers] to adopt his new kitten, Lykos!
“Make sure you adopt; don’t shop if you’re looking for a best friend of your own!” shared the Miami Heat.

Kel’el Chose Lykos, Or Was it the Other Way Around?
As you saw in the video, Kel’el chose a beautiful kitten that appeared to have a very relaxed purrsonality. But often, a cat or kitten behaves quite differently at the shelter. They need time in a home where they feel safe before their true purrsonality emerges. Thus, you can’t usually judge a pet by the way they behave in a rescue or shelter.
Most of the time, you can expect three months for a cat or kitten to feel fully at home. The adjustment period is always part of adopting a pet, and it’s a commitment for a lifetime.
If a cat or kitten appears nervous or stressed, it doesn’t mean they will be like that in a loving home. Conversely, a relaxed kitten may not be so chill once they have time to adjust to home. However, watching Lykos, it’s obvious that he does indeed trust his new Dad. It’s a sign of good things to come, for sure!
“I’m looking for a cat that can just chill with me. You know, just sit beside me,” Kel’el said.
In this case, the fluffy Lykos was so relaxed, even falling asleep and purring in his future Dad’s arms. It’s unusually serene for a first-time meeting and so heartwarming.
“He’s just chillin’ whatever position he in. Look at him. This might be the one; look at him, he’s purring,” said Kel’el.
Orange Cat Behavior
But online, we spotted a comment that made us laugh out loud:
“Should we tell him?” said one person.
She was alluding to what we all know: that orange cats tend to be hilariously unpredictable. It’s why we adore orange kitties like Marm and Bond so much!
