‘Orange Chicken,’ the handsome 6-year-old tabby, found himself at the shelter in Oakland, California. He was such a friendly boy if you got to know him, but in a stressful shelter environment, he was understandably anxious. When people came near, he would cautiously chirp, but he wasn’t coming out of his shell too much. All the sights and sounds of a crowded and unfamiliar shelter are upsetting for any feline.

When families came in considering adoption, they overlooked Orange Chicken, not realizing his flavorful purrsonality would bloom in a home environment. As we know, it’s usually the cutie patootie kittens who tend to get the first look. Luckily, all was not lost for this kitty, thanks to a rescue designed for cats just like him.

Giving such adult cats the chance for a new life usually takes a village, or in this case, a Cat Town. They work paw to paw with the shelter to save the overlooked cats who won’t shine until they’re given a different environment.

Orange Chicken’s Purrsonality Emerges Fast

After arriving at the shelter, they saw Orange Chicken looking depressed and unsure of himself.

“At the shelter, Orange Chicken was feeling down. He accepted pets and would chirp at people who came to see him, but we could see this sweet 6-year-old boy was missing life in a home, so we brought him into our foster program,” shared Cat Town.

Yet given a safe foster home, this cat’s unique purrsonality emerged in no time. In general, it can take three months for any cat to fully adjust to a new home, but he started to bloom in a couple of weeks.

He looked super cute wearing a soft collar to prevent scratching at his leg for a time.

He also revealed he can be very bold and resourceful indeed when it comes to getting food!

“He settled in quickly, and after a couple weeks, his fosters let us know, ‘Orange Chicken is doing great! He’s such a sweetheart — although we discovered he has some really impressive Wolverine abilities to slash bags open when he’s really hungry.” they shared.

The Sweetest of Foster Fails

Although “goodbye is the goal” for all fosterers, Orange Chicken was just too sweet. Given a safe home he so charmed his family they decided goodbye was out of the question for this lucky fellow! He was simply irresistible.

“After getting checked up at the vet, Orange Chicken was ready to find a forever home! Luckily for him, he didn’t have to look very far, because his fosters turned into his adopters. Since then, they say, “Orange Chicken has been as sweet as ever!”

“Many cats, like Orange Chicken, end up at the shelter and find themselves stressed by the unfamiliar environment. Your support gives them a way out. Thank you for making our work possible, and helping Orange Chicken find his family!” Cat Town wrote.
