Animals have a sixth sense we just can’t explain. They might not be able to speak our language, but they know how to get their point across when something is wrong. In this story, the kitty knew a tiny human was in grave danger and sprung into action like a superhero. You really have to see it to believe it (see video below).

Gatubela Saves A Baby From Falling

“The cat saved our baby!”

A Siamese cat named Gatubela was minding her business doing the usual cat-things on her chair. In between important cat things, she watched her human sibling, one-year-old Samuel, play on the floor of their Bogotá, Columbia home. This kitty is a great babysitter!

But then, Samuel started crawling around the room, as babies do. Moving fast, an unseen steep ledge with a flight of stairs is beyond the camera’s lens. Samuel crept closer and closer to the stairs and it was almost too late until Gatubela stepped in. Gatubela watched Samuel get to the edge of the stairs before she jumped off the chair and intervened. But that’s putting it mildly.

This cat sprang into immediate action, sprinting across the room with a determined purpose. She clearly wanted to save the baby, jumping on him as if to grab him from the scruff like her kitten. When that failed, she body checked the baby, placing her body around him in a flash.

Once in front of him, you can see she used her paws as if to tell the baby, “You shall not pass, Little Mr!”

Without Gatubela, Samuel would’ve tumbled down about twelve steps. You can see what the stairway looked like just inches away via Metro.

Who knows what would’ve happened if Gatubela wasn’t watching!

“The cat has been part of our family practically since birth, we had her here when she was a month, a month and a few days old, and she has become familiar with my children.”- Jesid Leon, father of Samuel.

After Gatubela stopped the baby from falling, she continued to focus his attention with her paws and got him to move away from the stairs closer to the living area. As you can see, she did her best to try and play with Samuel to keep him away from reaching the stairs again. And all of this happened in a split second, well, more like 46 seconds! It’s all pretty surreal and hard to believe it until you see it yourself. But it also shows that this kitty knew exactly what she was doing and sprang into action like a heroine!

The little Siamese hero’s video was shared all over the world via Mail Online and also picked up by Fundación Gatos Bogotanos en Adopción’s Facebook page (Bagota Cats For Adoption Foundation in English). But how did it all happen in the first place? While Samuel’s mama, Diana Lorena Álvarez was working, she put Samuel in his crib since he was still asleep.

“”I was a short distance from him when I suddenly noticed that he had woken up and had left the crib by himself, for this reason I wanted to go back over the recordings so that I could see how he got out of his crib.”

She checked the CCTV footage when she was alerted Samuel climbed out of bed and saw the whole thing happen.

“It was at that moment that I discovered that the cat had saved his life. If it had not been for the cat my son would have rolled down the stairs. Watching the footage, I felt really surprised and lucky.”

It makes perfect sense she would spring into action. After all, the Mirror reported the name, Gatúbela, translates into “Catwoman” in English, after the DC Comics character. So, thank you, Catwoman, for your astonishing superhero cat reflexes that saved a human in distress!

Here’s one feline superhero who is very real and living in Columbia.
