West Virginia’s Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association (KCHA) shared the story of Morgan, a cat with a constant “surprised look” on his face. Residents familiar with the neighborhood cat brought him in when they discovered he had suffered a horrible jaw injury which caused the permanent look.
According to KCHA, Morgan suffered from a “degloved jaw.” Horrifically, the tissue around his jaw became torn away from his jawbone.
“Degloving is a severe injury where skin/tissue is ripped away from bone, muscle, or connective tissue. Basically, this sweet kitty’s chin was ripped away from the bone of his jaw,” states the Facebook post.
Unfortunately, nobody but Morgan knows how this injury happened.
“We wish animals could tell us what’s happened to them in the past,” they write.
In the accompanying picture, Morgan appears wide-eyed but otherwise fine. However, that’s because the veterinarians had done amazing work to repair his jaw.
“This picture is after our veterinarian had sutured his skin back together. Trust us; you do not want to see the horror of his before picture,” they state.
Now recovering with pain medication, the cat has won over the staff with his charming purrsonality.
Morgan Remained Loving Despite the Horrific Injury
Despite the severe injury, the rescuers say the cat they named Morgan has been a “total sweetheart” throughout the ordeal. Also, he has shown a bit of a naughty side, doing what he can to get more of the rescuer’s attention.
“He is still on his healing journey, but we’re very optimistic about his recovery! He’s doing really well! He loves wet food, and he’s got a mischievous side – he discovered if he knocks his water bowl over, one of our medical team will hurry over to clean up the spill…and give Morgan some love. He’s all about it!” they said.
Thus, it would seem this kitty is very clever and a real attention-getter.
A Bright Future Thanks to Support
Now, the rescuers are optimistic that Morgan will have much better days ahead, thanks to the ongoing support from caring people.
“It’s safe to say we’re head over heels for this sweet kitty who will never be able to tell us his full story. We’re looking forward to Morgan’s bright future,” they state.
Online, many people came forward interested in adopting Morgan, including the people who brought him in. So, it seems he’ll most likely have a new forever home in short order. Then, he may find himself an indoor kitty, where he’ll be safe from injury.
As shared by WTRF News, you can donate supplies to the KCHA by visiting their Amazon or Chewy wishlists. Also, you can find more information about the KCHA on their website.
“Your care and support of our shelter helps us grow to find ways to help more animals in need.” the KCHA said. “From Morgan and the KCHA team, thank you all for being a part of the pack.”
On the KCHA Instagram and Facebook, you can see many other cute pets for adoption. In November, the shelter helped take in 105 cats from a single home seizure. Then, they helped them all find homes in the community, like this shy kitty named Lady Crane below.
“Peekaboo, we see you, Lady Crane! This girl is the last adult cat from the 105 cat seizure from a single home we had in November of 2021,” they shared on Instagram.
Recently, they have seen an increase in feline patients, some requiring emergency ICU treatment. In all cases, they rely mostly on community support to provide care and help the cats begin a new life of companionship.
