A crazy cat lady won an historic lottery jackpot in Colorado in 2022. Doreen M., self-described “Crazy Cat Lady,” won half of the second-largest Lotto+ jackpot in Colorado history. The jackpot had gone unclaimed since March, falling short of the $27 million prize won in 1992.
On Wednesday before the drawing, Doreen bought the ticket at the Safeway Fuel Mini C in Monument, a town 50 miles south of Denver. Later, she went to check her numbers on the Lotto website, and, according to KOAA News5, thought to herself:
“You have got to be ‘kitten’ me.”
Two Women Take the Lottery Jackpot
After checking the second line of numbers, Doreen realized her winnings had gone from $6 to $12,500,000. First, she called her sister, saying, “You’d better sit down for this.”
Another person named Charlotte F. from Crowborough, England, also won, so the two women split the $25 million jackpot. She bought her ticket at the Winners Corner LLC in Pueblo, Colorado, and it was indeed a winner. Now, she’ll never forget her visit to the states as she heads back to England. If she chooses, she could take a lump sum of $6.25 million before taxes, if not the annual installment payment plan.
On the giant-sized jackpot check, they made out the winnings to “Crazy Cat Lady.”
🧶 The Lottery Winner’s Plans 🧶
With all that loot, paid out in 25 graduated annual payments, Doreen paid off her mortgage and outstanding bills. Then, that left plenty for pursuing her passion for knitting and weaving.
“Along with her passion for feline friends, Doreen is an avid knitter and weaver, and is planning on using some of the winnings to travel to knitting conventions across the country. There’s sure to be plenty of yarn for both her and her kitties in the foreseeable future,” wrote KOAA.
👑 A Gilded Food Dish 👑
According to Play Colorado, Doreen is looking forward to a “post-pandemic world” when she can travel to meet other yarn lovers.
Today, she has one cat but has previously had six cats. Now, this kitty will be living the high life with a neverending supply of yarn no doubt.
“Her lone cat at the moment — she previously owned six at one time — certainly won’t be neglected, either. A gilded food dish just might be in her feline companion’s near-future,” wrote Play Colorado.
